About ShugFM
An exciting new radio station will soon be hitting the airwaves of Stafford,
and is broadcasting directly from the Beaconside campus of Stafford
University.
The radio station, based in the Beacon Building, will broadcast across
Stafford on 87.7FM from 18th March as a pilot broadcast, with a view to a
permanent radio solution for future students of the Stafford campus. It will
also broadcast worldwide on the Internet. The content will be around 75%
music to 25% speech and is currently recruiting volunteers for its first
ever broadcast.
Station Manager Chris Gray: “The Stafford campus of Staffordshire University
currently has no radio provision. Students find the current student radio
station (Internet only Service GK Radio) does not tailor for their needs and
all radio stations picked up in Stafford broadcast from Stoke, Birmingham
and beyond. ShugFM aims to combat the problem by providing a
self-sustaining, profitable and popular new radio station with a really
local yet professional sound.”
The radio station forms part of the Final Year Project of Music Technology
and Management student Chris Gray. ShugFM is currently recruiting volunteers
to be involved in all aspects of the radio station, on air and off.
Interested parties can email [email protected] for more
information.
Gray: “ShugFM also hopes to provide a building block for the future: further
similar broadcasts could be undertaken and the project turned into a
“Community Radio” station; a permanent station that is focused on the local
area and the students. The university has an entrepreneurial and creative
outlook and this project would really help boost their “Create the
Difference” campaign.
